Paul Groom
Paul
Groom is the founding and a Managing Partner
of Telefinance, and has provided financial
consulting, research and restructuring
services to telecommunications clients
for more than twelve years.
Paul has worked for the First National
Bank of Chicago and Chase Manhattan Bank
in London, Chicago, São Paulo and
New York. He has held executive positions
in trade and commodity finance, correspondent
banking, corporate finance, investment
banking and credit and risk management.
Paul has worked closely with equipment
suppliers such as Nortel Networks, Motorola,
Alcatel, Siemens, Ericsson, and a number
of other smaller suppliers to assist with
the structuring of supplier financings
for greenfield projects and corporate
finance. Paul has provided advisory and
research services to corporate clients
with operations in Brazil.
His experience encompassed the pre-privatization
phase; assisting BNDES with the development
of their telecom finance department; advising
mobile cellular B-band participants; assisting
corporations involved in Brazil’s
privatization process; helping PCS/ GSM
infrastructure providers with capital
planning and providing market, sector
and product analyses.
Since early 2002, Telefinance, led by
Paul, became involved in the financial
restructuring of telecommunications companies
encountering financial difficulties such
as the mobile cellular and PCS operator,
CTI in Argentina and Impsat with operations
throughout Latin America.
Paul holds a Bachelors degree in Government
and Politics and a Masters in Comparative
Politics, both from the University of
Kent, Canterbury, England.
